Calculate your estimated monthly take-home salary from your annual CTC.
Salary Calculator: Convert Your Annual CTC to Monthly In-Hand Pay
Imagine you finally cleared that brutal technical interview. The HR calls you up and excitedly offers you a "12 Lakh CTC" package. You do a quick mental calculation: 12 Lakhs divided by 12 months... wow, that is exactly 1 Lakh rupees per month! You start planning to buy a new car or rent a fancy apartment.
But then your first salary slips hits your inbox, and you see only 82,000 rupees credited to your bank account. Wait, what happened? Did the company cheat you? Where did the rest of the money go?
Welcome to the harsh reality of corporate salaries in India. CTC (Cost to Company) is very different from your actual In-Hand (Net) Salary. To save you from this post-hiring heartbreak, I built this simple, easy-to-use Salary Calculator. Just punch in your offered CTC, and it will instantly break down the hidden deductions like EPF and Professional Tax, revealing the realistic monthly amount you will actually get to take home.
Why is CTC Different from In-Hand Salary?
CTC literally means the total cost a company spends to keep you employed for a year. It is a big, bloated number designed to look attractive on an offer letter. Here is the secret: that big number includes things you never see in cash. Let's look at the three main culprits that eat away at your CTC:
1. The Employer's PF Contribution
By Indian labor laws, companies usually contribute 12% of your Basic Salary to your Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account for your retirement. Here is the trick: Most companies include their own contribution inside your CTC! So, a chunk of your 12 Lakh package is money the company is directly sending to the government for your retirement, not to your bank account.
2. The Employee's PF Deduction
It gets worse. Not only does the employer's share get deducted from the CTC to form your Gross Salary, but now your own 12% EPF share is deducted from that Gross Salary! This double-PF effect is why the final take-home looks surprisingly small. (Note: Our calculator caps PF at the standard ₹1,800/month if applicable, which is the legal minimum for high-earners).
3. Professional Tax (PT)
Depending on the Indian state you are working in (like Maharashtra, Karnataka, or Telangana), the state government charges a flat Professional Tax. It is usually around ₹200 per month or ₹2,400 a year. Our calculator automatically factors this standard deduction in.
How to Use Our CTC to In-Hand Calculator
I designed this tool to be completely fuss-free. You don't need to know complex accounting rules or tax slabs to use it. Just follow these steps:
- ✅Enter Your Annual CTCLook at your offer letter and find the total annual Cost to Company. Enter that full number (e.g., 1200000 for 12 LPA) into the big input box.
- ✅Review the Salary BreakdownThe tool will instantly generate a beautiful breakdown box. It shows you the Gross Annual Salary (after stripping out the Employer PF), the Employee PF deduction, and the Professional Tax deduction.
- ✅Check the Big NumberAt the very bottom, highlighted in massive text, you will see your estimated Monthly In-Hand Salary. This is the realistic amount you can expect to hit your bank account every month (before Income Tax/TDS).
A Crucial Note About Income Tax (TDS)
You might notice that our calculator does not subtract Income Tax (also known as TDS - Tax Deducted at Source). Why did I leave it out? Because calculating Income Tax accurately requires knowing deeply personal financial details that a simple calculator cannot guess.
For example: Do you pay rent (HRA exemption)? Do you invest in mutual funds under 80C? Are you paying off an education loan? Did you opt for the New Tax Regime or the Old Tax Regime?
Two people earning the exact same 12 LPA CTC can have completely different take-home salaries simply because one person smartly planned their taxes while the other didn't. Therefore, this tool gives you the Gross In-Hand pay. From this final number, your HR will further deduct your specific Income Tax based on the investment proofs you submit in January!
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the PF deduction compulsory?
For employees earning a basic salary under ₹15,000 per month, contributing to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is mandatory by law. For those earning more, it is technically optional, but almost all major IT and corporate companies enforce it as a standard HR policy.
What happens to the PF money? Is it lost?
Not at all! Think of it as a forced savings account. The money deducted from your salary (plus the employer's contribution) goes into your UAN account with the government. It earns a very healthy interest rate (usually over 8%) and you can withdraw it when you switch jobs, buy a house, or retire.
Does this calculator work for all companies?
This calculator uses a "Standard Indian Salary Structure" where Basic Pay is roughly 50% of the CTC. While 90% of IT companies follow this structure, some startups might offer you heavily inflated stock options (ESOPs) or huge variable performance bonuses. In those cases, you should manually subtract those variables before using the calculator.
Is my salary data safe here?
100% yes. As with all tools on Ira Magic Tools, the calculation happens entirely using Javascript in your local browser. We absolutely do not save, track, or record the salary numbers you enter.
